The village that disputed its name

Imagine finding your village on a map under a name you do not use. That was the objection Selling Parish Council raised in a 2021 planning response.

The gazetteer called the place Neames Forstal. The council said residents did not recognise that name. They used Selling, or the station area.

So the map gives us a Neame place-name, and the village gives us a disagreement. Who the Neame was is still unknown. Ask a local for directions and you might get a different map altogether.
