The place and its story

Buy somewhere to sell the beer

Richard Marsh bought the Three Tuns in Tanners Street and the Castle in West Street. Making beer was one job. Finding people to drink it was another.

Samuel Shepherd expanded the idea. The brewery credits him with buying 21 pubs in Faversham, nearby villages and the Isle of Sheppey.

That takes the story out through the town and across the water. Start with the Three Tuns, where a pub’s own building history gives us something else to look for.
