Boundary clues · An undated local-history discovery
An N in the hedge
One letter was enough to start a local mystery.
Someone found an old stone in a hedge in Ingle Close. Cut into it was a clear N.
A Heritage Trust newsletter links the stone with Edward Neame’s land, and that land with Neame Road. It is an appealing clue: a surname reduced to one letter, left behind as the neighbourhood changed.
The stone’s date and exact position remain uncertain. The newsletter’s explanation needs maps and deeds to settle it. For now, follow the letter to the road. That name is much easier to spot.

Newsletter text currently examined as an indexed excerpt, not an independently inspected stone or original deed. Exact stone position, date and attribution remain a research lead. Ingle Close road geometry must not be presented as the stone’s location.
