Start with the man under fire
A Victoria Cross citation leads into one Philip Neame’s life.
Near Neuve Chapelle on 19 December 1914, Lieutenant Philip Neame helped wounded men under fire and held off an enemy attack. His Victoria Cross notice records the action.
There is another soldier called Philip Neame in this collection. Much later, he commanded D Company of 2 PARA during the Falklands War.
The shared name gives us two stories to follow. These are separate men, and the records examined here have not established a family link between them.
