The place and its story

Ten children became shareholders

In 1914, Percy Neame’s ten children became shareholders in the brewery’s new limited company. Ten children. The family business had quite a family behind it.

Percy had entered the partnership in 1864 after his brother-in-law John Henry Mares died. The company dates his sole ownership to 1875, though the local heritage account gives a different chronology.

His sons Harry, Arthur and Alick joined around 1895. Percy died in 1913. The business then passed into a new form, with his children holding shares and the next generation facing a war.
